Improve your Writing

January 28, 2011 – by Shay Ruggles

When you’re sitting down to write something at work, your goal is to relay knowledge to the reader.  The last thing you want to do when writing copy for your website, a new product slick, or even a blog post is let your writing get in the way of a great message – because you do have a great message don’t you?

Make it easy on your reader, hand them the message, don’t make them search for it.

Follow these rules for better writing:

  • Be as succinct as possible - cut the jargon and get to the point
  • Replace smaller words instead of larger words if you can
  • Write in your speaking voice – if you wouldn’t say it in a normal conversation, don’t write it
  • Bottom line, use proper English. Ask someone if it’s questionable.
